Most weeks I try to give you an encouraging or challenging thought from God's Word. This week, several of you have been sharing words with me. So I thought I would allow you to encourage your church.
Consider these thoughtful words:
"I watched a man change a street lamp bulb this morning. You know, one that is twenty feet in the air in the parking lot. You never think about it, but every single object that we travel on or see throughout the day has to be maintained and someone has to do that job. It's pretty interesting to think about; how many people have to be involved to keep this world going. Everyone has a gift; some might be less visible to the masses, but it's still a very important gift. Just like the man changing the light bulbs. The same is true in the Body of Christ; everyone has a gift, some gifts might not be evident to the masses attending church every week, but they are still important and allow the whole Body to keep functioning and growing. I want to thank all of you for using your spiritual gifts. So, Thank You."
Or consider this response:
"Just having the friends and church family around us, praying, helping out, giving love and encouragement, keeps my "light bulb changed and world running," especially in these difficult times. So I THANK ALL OF YOU, for being the best people, friends and family and man could have ever wished for."
I love the church. It is amazing to see and hear how Christ is working in and through his church week after week in such tangible ways. Its an honor to serve alongside each of you.
Backpacks for Community Kids
Be sure to remember our Backpack Outreach, see the details below from Jann Garcia. Bring supplies this week as we have some students in Woodland currently attending school without the supplies they need, and Davis students will be starting back soon. Last day to collect supplies Sunday, August 22.
Another school year is just around the corner for the children and teens in our community. We would love to be able to reach out proactively and provide new backpacks and school supplies to the many families we've blessed in the past and to new ones we may meet. I know it might be hard to believe there is material need in Davis, but there is so much! I have seen it first hand. Many of you have seen it first hand!
Like many of you, I am sure you were moved by Pastor John's sharing the story of how King David, after he'd blessed and provided for his family with the abundance God had provided through David's courage and service, looked around for whom else he might bless.
David asked, "Is there no one still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show God's kindness?" (2 Samuel 9:3)
If John's message made you look around for whom you might bless, look no more!
People talk about our church family in the community. We are known to be the feet and hands of Jesus in sincere, relevant, and caring ways. I feel privileged to belong to a church that is consistent with the Gospel message,
- Jann
