“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you KNOW that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” - 1 Corinthians 15:56-58
The empty tomb leads us to live thankful lives because we can KNOW we have victory in Jesus Christ over the power of sin and death. The empty tomb gives us the ability and courage to stand in the face of life's struggles and to remain unmoved in the midst of life's storms. The empty tomb leads us to give ourselves "fully to the work of the Lord," because we KNOW that such work has lasting rewards.
But perhaps the problem is that we don't always feel like we KNOW 100%. We struggle to see the risen Jesus with our own physical eyes, so we have some doubts that get in the way of our faith. Very few of us would question that the resurrection of Jesus Christ - if it is true - would be good news for us, that it might transform our lives and deaths. But the problem we have is that we can never really KNOW that Jesus rose from the dead, right?
This Sunday we are going to continue with an Easter message on the empty tomb of Christ. It is a historical fact that Jesus' tomb was empty three days after he was crucified. However, people have attempted to explain that fact in different ways from the very day it was found.
You and I are called to walk by faith, but it is not an unreasonable faith. Jesus never called us to check our thinking minds at the door. This Sunday we will explore some of the facts of the empty tomb, and some of the ways people have tried to explain it. Through our time together this Sunday, you may truly investigate the empty tomb for the first time. You may be strengthened in your faith. Or you may be better equipped to share Christ with others. Together we are discovering our risen Savior and the life he has for us.
So bring your hearts and minds this Sunday, as we explore the empty tomb and worship Christ as our risen Lord and Savior.
See you Sunday,
John
