Discovery Christian Church was planted in the soil of Davis in June of 2001 and first gathered for worship on February 22, 2002. Today we continue in our commitment to teaching the Bible and advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The fact that Discovery has persisted through dynamics of a university town, difficulties of economics, and transitions of leadership has strengthened our conviction that God has a purpose for this church here in Davis. So the question is not whether or not God wants us here, but what we should be doing. Our leadership has spent the past several years prayerfully discerning how God would have us live out our Christian life here in Davis, and here is the big picture…
DISCOVERY’S MISSION:
We are here to meet people where they are and lead them to be more fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. (Luke 19:10, John 20:21, Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 24:46, Acts 1:8
We accomplish our mission in and through BIBLICAL COMMUNITY where we are CONNECTING, GROWING and SERVING.
- CONNECT. Connecting means meeting people and fostering our connections into deeper and meaningful relationships where we truly care for each other. These are the relationships God uses to transform us.
- GROW. Growing means getting in God’s Word and doing it with God’s people. Learning God’s Truth through the Holy Spirit and in loving community is God’s primary prescription for our growing in knowledge and faith.
- SERVE. Serving is an expression of God’s purpose in our lives. As we know needs of the church Body, of others within the church, or people out in our city, we joyfully meet those needs.
We connect, grow and serve together in two primary environments where both followers and seekers of Christ are welcomed in, built up and sent out to live each day transformed by the Gospel. Our Sunday Worship Gathering is our front door where we first connect, grow and serve. Then in Community Groups we connect more meaningfully, grow more effectively, and serve together passionately.
